This Website was created by me, Attorney Jon Robinson, to help you save money and teach you how file your divorce all on your own. 

Step 1

Understand your Assets. Write out a list of all the assets you have, determine what is “separate property” and what is “community property.” The definitions are trickier than you think but very important. Watch the video for a better understanding of what defines “separate property” and what defines “community property.”

Determine if your divorce is “Contested” or “Un-Contested” (An “Un-Contested” Divorce is also sometimes referred to a “Non-Contested” Divorce)

In most states, divorce is County specific, meaning you must submit your divorce papers (aka. “file your divorce”) with the proper County. Divorce papers are most likely submitted to the County Court House (notice this is different from a “city court house” or a “federal court house”). Watch the video to gain an idea on how to locate the proper county required for your divorce filing.

Obtain the correct forms to fill out. Now, that you know the County you need to file in, you need the correct forms that the County will accept. I’ve compiled a list of forms for some states. Click on the Link to the right to download the forms. Notice that some states, like Texas, have one form that will work in any County.
